ABITA BEER INTRODUCES NEW SATSUMA BREW

Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit In Stores Now

Made with real Louisiana Satsumas, golden wheat, oats and the finest barley, Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit is the newest creation of the Abita Brewing Company.  Pale and cloudy, like the haze on a hot summer day, this white beer has a sweet and subtle citrus flavor with a touch of spice that is cool and refreshing.

“Satsuma Harvest Wit is the newest addition to our Harvest series of brews,” said David Blossman, President of the Abita Brewing Company.  “Just like the native strawberries and nuts used in Abita Strawberry and Pecan Harvest, we used real Louisiana-grown Satsuma citrus harvested at their peak to create this new brew,” stated Blossman.  “Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit is a perfect summertime brew and will be offered between Abita Strawberry Harvest in the spring and Abita Pecan Harvest in the fall.”

Available For A Limited Time Only

Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit is brewed in limited quantities and available for a limited time only.  Consumers should look for Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit where they normally shop for Abita Beer or use the store locator at Abita.com to find a nearby location.

Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit is very versatile and can compliment a number of dishes. This brew pairs well with salads, fish, shrimp and lobster, as long as the dishes are not too spicy. Thai dishes, which often have citric notes in their flavor profile, would also perfectly compliment the orange flavors in Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit.

Abita Beer Is Always Louisiana True

Abita Satsuma Harvest Wit and all other Abita brews, including Amber, Turbodog, Jockamo I.P.A., Purple Haze and Restoration Ale are crafted at the Abita Brewing Company facility in Abita Springs.  Abita Beer has no preservatives, additives or stabilizers and each batch is hand crafted to create brews that are always Louisiana True.

NEW PRY-OFF CROWN KEEPS ABITA BEER FRESHER
Technology keeps oxygen out and protects flavor

(Abita Springs, LA)  The Abita Brewing Company has introduced new technology designed to keep Abita Beer fresher by blocking oxygen intrusion into the bottles.  The process introduces innovative barrier crown technology to all Abita brews.  The new pry-off crown offers an increased barrier to oxygen due to its density and the special properties of the crown liner.  Oxygen is the enemy of beer and causes it to lose a significant amount of the flavor compounds that are essential to taste.

“We always search for ways to bring the freshest tasting Abita Beer to the consumer,” said David Blossman, President of Abita Beer.  “This new cap technology makes a significant improvement on oxygen intrusion and convinced us to let go of the old twist-off cap,” continued Blossman.  “Our motto is quality before quantity and these new caps will help us to continue bringing the highest quality Abita beer to our customers.”

Minute amounts of oxygen can pass through the lining of an ordinary crown over time, affecting the flavor of the beer.  The new pry-off oxygen barrier crown will ensure that discerning Abita Beer drinkers will taste the full range of flavor in every bottle.

Very early Tuesday morning, January 13, 2009, an Abita Brewing Company employee was cleaning an empty beer-aging tank.  As part of the cleaning process the tank was being filled with carbon dioxide when the tank ruptured creating a loud sound that could be heard in the immediate area.

No one was injured as a result of the rupture and no product was lost.  Abita employees on site worked with St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's deputies to respond to the incident in conjunction with Abita’s safety training protocol.

Brewery production has been temporarily suspended and should resume shortly.  Abita Brewing Company president David Blossman says they expect to return to full normal operations Wednesday.

"Safety is a first priority at our brewery. Our teams followed safety protocols and as a result no one was injured,” said Blossman.  “We apologize if we startled our neighbors or disturbed their sleep.  For 23 years our brewery has been free of any incidents such as this.  With safety as a priority we plan to investigate what happened and implement procedures that continue to improve our safety procedures.”
